Mudgee region fast facts

  • 3 hours from Sydney (northwest)
  • Similar latitude to the Hunter but vastly different climate
  • Dry and high altitude (500-600m)
  • Plenty of afternoon sunlight, cool nights
  • Contributes to slow ripening with deep colour development (harvest/picking about 1 month after Hunter)
  • 70+ vineyards (pop approx 15,000)
  • More area under vine than the Hunter (Mudgee’s fruit often blended with premium wines from other regions)
  • Renowned for reds- esp cabernet, shiraz

  • Set high up on the hills 15 km Sydney side of Mudgee
  • Well drained, north facing gravel slopes.
  • Insulated from frost & withstand wet weather well
  • Produce some of the cleanest/disease free fruit in district
  • Varieties grown - cabernet, merlot, shiraz, petit verdot, semillon, pinot gris, tempranillo, viognier 
  • Vines now 13 yrs old & well balanced
  • Yields are  3–4 tonnes/acre (low yield, premium)
  • Mostly hand picked
